The portraits in my Gallery are created on a board that is coated with a layer of clay called Kaolin clay. The clay is then sprayed with a layer of India ink and the image is created by scratching off the ink with a variety of sharp tools. At this point color may even be added by using watercolors or ink. Once the portrait or image is finished a coat of acrylic is sprayed on top to protect the surface from further scratches.  

The portraits are created by the artist using a reference photo given by the customer or taken by the artist herself. This photo does not need to be of the actual size or color the image is intended to be rendered in.  A clear photo with the pet's eyes looking in the camera's direction works the best. It may be a favorite photo taken years prior, or even a photo of a pet that has passed away. If two or more pets are to be done in the same portrait, the artist may use a number of reference photos to accomplish a collage.

These portraits make a great gift for a pet loving friend or family members who are difficult to purchase gifts for. If you do not or can not get a photo of the pet, we offer gift certificates, so they can send the photo they desire.

Any kind of pet can be rendered including Dogs, Cats, Birds, Horses, Ferrets, Goats, Lamas and so on. While the head shot is the most commonly chosen by the customer, full body shots can be done as well. All you need to do is send a photo to Josie via e-mail or snail mail by using either a digital camera or from your cell phone. Other photos such as printed photos can either be sent snail mail or scanned and e-mailed. All printed photos will be returned with your artwork.
